Striding Towards Sustainability with Organic Cotton - Oliver Spencer Spring/Summer '19

Sustainability is current at the forefront of the industry, with designers and brands making it a priority due to consumers becoming increasingly conscious of what they're buying. An ethos that we stick by and apply to Burrows & Hare is to buy  less product, but of better quality that will last you considerably longer.

One of our chosen brands who are making huge steps in an attempt to be more sustainable throughout their supply chain is Oliver Spencer. Their first port of call is making an effort to use ethically-sourced and organic fabrics, starting off with cotton, linen and wool.

In some cases, conventional cotton is one of the most environmentally damaging aspects of the fashion industry due to the excessive consumption of water and insecticides; 16% of world insecticides come from cotton farming alone. By being more aware and conscious of what you're buying, you can help to reduce this burden on the environment and increase the welfare of those handling cotton in its raw form.

As part of this journey, they have switched from conventional cotton to organic cotton for all their core products. But, Oliver Spencer acknowledge that this isn't a transition that will take place overnight, instead they are increasing their percentage of organic cotton from season to season. Currently at Burrows & Hare we stock their white Grandad Shirt, which is manufactured using 100% organic cotton.

As well as stocking their organic cotton shirt, we've also got their Cowboy jacket - available in stone or navy - which is constructed using a 100% linen exterior sourced from one of their favourite Irish mills.

You can shop our latest collection of Oliver Spencer in-store and online now. If you're in the vicinity of Oxford, then head down to either of our stores in the Westgate and the Covered Market. Or our latest addition in Birmingham's Mailbox
